Not sure what to say?

Dear Ennis family, One day in July 1971 I got a new family. It was fantastic how you opened your home and made me feel at home and being part of your family from the verry first day. Doris and Ralph were fantastically generous persons and I learned so much from both. At home in N.E. San Raphael Street or several weeks in Astoria fishing or wherever we were, you never had to worry, because Doris had full control. All of you children who lived at home during the year I spent with you really...

At ACLU, Doris always knew what was happening. Her bright eyes and robust humor lit the place up. I was surprised when she told me that she also volunteered at the Art Museum Print Shop. Her son brought her to the long, mahogany table, in her wheelchair, bright-eyed and full of good ideas. I miss my...

I spent many afternoons with Doris volunteering at the Rental Sales Gallery at the Portland Art Museum. She was nothing short of an amazing woman who I admired very much; she was so involved with contemporary politics and ethics and always knew her facts. Doris often charmed us with her grace and style. What a marvelous life to be so cogent in her later years. Sending to love to Jay and all of her children. I love this photo of her wedding day which she kept close. CH

What a remarkable woman! She devoted an amazing number of volunteer hours to the ACLU, and could always be counted on to help out on any and every occasion -- and always with a smile. Her enthusiasm and good cheer brightened the world. I have missed seeing her in recent years.

My sincere condolences to all of you kids...may her memory stay fresh in your minds and cherished...Janell
