Doris was a one of a kind human being. She was strong yet kind. She was a great teacher and mentor to me. I worked for Doris as Deputy County Clerk for seven and a half years until her retirement. Doris and I drove from one end of the county to the other on the Saturday before an election to deliver the now antiquated election supplies to all of the election judges. I was able to spend countless hours with her and enjoyed every minute. She never put me beneath her. She taught me...

We became acquainted with Doris and her husband, Jim, in the early 1990's through a mutual acquaintance. We are the Jim Gerners of Shawnee, KS and both Jims spent much time together tracing Gerner genealogy deciding they were distant cousins. And, to top it off, both oldest sons are named Jeff.
