McCOWN, Doris - Of Flint, age 82, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her residence. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Emeritus Berniece A. Matejcek officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Tabernacle, 1225 South Center Road, Burton. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Doris was born in Auxier, Kentucky on September 17, 1927 and was a resident of Flint since 1952. Doris was a member of Faith Tabernacle for many years. She volunteered for the Center of Gerontology for many years and went to nursing homes and read scripture. Doris was employed by Angelos Coney Island for 24 years and 9 years at B&C. Surviving are four children, Sharon McClure, Larry (Sylvia) McCown, Brenda Childers, all of Flint, Judy (Renold) Lee of Bowling Green, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Michael Hatchel of Kentucky, Larry (Holley) Childers of Hartland, Niki Lee (Brian) Robertson of Kentucky, Rusty Lee of Flint and Laura (Adam) Messenger of Flint; one very special great-grandson, Brady Thomas Messenger; sisters, Pauline Brooks (Kenneth) Wheeler of Ashland, Kentucky and Delores Kessler of Paintsville, Kentucky; special adopted daughters, Frances Howard and Tyneshia Thurman and her daughters, Precious and Princess; many nieces, nephews and very special friends, Pat and Richard Follen at Faith Tabernacle; her babies, Baby Doll and Blackie.
