MESSER, Doris Madison, 84, daughter of Effie Rhay Jones Madison and Leslie Carl Madison, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 25, 2010, at the Masonic Home of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. Messer Jr. She is survived by her children, Doris M. (Joseph) Ball, William P. Messer Jr., Leslie C. (June) Messer and Gordon L. Messer; grandchildren, Tina M. (Mike) Childress, Barbara Adkins, Phillip E. (Patyn) Rosser, Andrew Messer, Amanda Smith and Frankie Hubbard; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sandston Baptist Church, 100 W. Williamsburg Rd., Sandston, 23150, with Pastor Karl Heilman officiating. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sandston Baptist Church or the Masonic Home of Virginia, P.O. Box 7866, Henrico, Va. 23231.

Mrs. Messer, I always said we were two "rattle snakes" I loved your strong will and firm words. I will miss you so much and will think of you everytime I go to work..but I know that you are in a better place. You are truly a beautiful person mind, body, soul and now spirit. Don't give them to much heck up there!
