Floyd Mortuary and Crematory Inc. - Lumberton Obituary

Doris McRae Moore of Rowland, NC went to the Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2023. A cherished wife, beloved mother, devoted grandmother, and a trusted and faithful friend to all, Doris was a lifelong resident of Robeson County. A farmer, teacher, friend, and advocate of her community, Doris treated everyone she met with kindness and respect. Her radiant smile and quick wit always drew people to her. Doris left Rowland briefly to attend Greensboro College where she received her degree in education and came back to the area to teach first in Laurinburg, NC and later at Southside Elementary in Rowland, all while managing her family’s farm. A faithful servant to her Lord Jesus Christ, Doris was deeply involved in her church, the Rowland Methodist Church.

Doris was proud of her farming heritage but was even more proud of her family. Married to the late Lewis Dixon Moore, Sr. in 1956, they had two children, Mary Ann Masters (John Masters) of Lumberton, NC and Lewis Dixon Moore, Jr, (Kathleen Moore) of Rock Hill, SC. She loved and adored her grandchildren: Harrison Masters (Heather Masters) of Wilmington, NC, Ross Masters (Camille Masters) of Nashville, TN, Meredith Moore of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Peyton Moore of Leland, NC.

The daughter of the late Adrian and Laelia McRae and sister of Sarah McRae Rowan and the late Mary McRae Lee, Doris loved the closeness of living in Rowland and the cherished friends and family she had there. Doris had the opportunity to live at Scotia Village during her last year spreading warmth, good cheer, and friendship to all whom she encountered. Whomever she met soon knew what a wonderful person Doris Moore was and her family will always cherish her memory.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1:30 PM at Rowland Methodist Church, 301 S. Bond Street in Rowland, NC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to either the Rowland Methodist Church, PO Box 66, Rowland, NC 28383, or the Rowland Cemetery Association, PO Box 37, Rowland, NC 28383.

Fond memories from childhood days swimming at Harley’s Bridge where Doris and Lewis Moore were our chaperones. Loved seeing them on the bank smiling and getting to know each other! They gave back so much to our beloved community!

In loving memory of a wonderful woman of GOD,a beautiful smile and always ready with a positive word for everyone. Your family will be in my prayers.....what a wonderful legacy she leaves behind!!!!!! Love you Dr. Masters!!!! Jonathan and Renee Pittman and family.

So sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful person, a neighbor during my teenage years and someone I admired so very much. She is reunited with her beloved “Louie”. The picture above is how I recall her and him.both had such beautiful smiles.

Sorry for your loss. We would meet at the Rowland Post Office and talk. She was such a sweet and dear friend.

So sorry for the loss of Ms. Doris. A very kind and good lady that was the bedrock of the Rowland Community!

As sweet as they come. Always cheerful and kind, she'll be missed.
