Mary, went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Doris was born on July 22, 1916 in Stillwater, N.Y., to the late Edward and Julia Smith. She graduated from Oneonta Normal School in 1937 and received a bachelor's degree from State College for Teachers in Albany, N.Y., in 1942. She enjoyed a career in teaching primary grades for over 30 years in New York. Doris had a special interest in history and geography, reading, traveling, gardening, needlework and playing the piano. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, N.Y., for over 50 years and attended Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond. She resided in South Glens Falls, N.Y., for 63 years and moved to Richmond two years ago to be near her daughter and family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clarence; her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bruce Kay of Richmond; her granddaughter and husband, Amy and Kyle Moore of Greenville, N.C.; her grandson and wife, Andrew and Kathleen Kay of Richmond; and her great-grandchild, Lawson Kay. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Florence Smith; and two sons, Paul and Carl Spaulding. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Third Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Third Presbyterian Church Endowment Corporation, 500 Forest Ave., Richmond, Va. 23229. A memorial and burial service will take place in New York next week. The family wishes to thank friends for their continued love and support.
