Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc - Village of Johnson Obituary

Doris Transue, 86, passed quietly Wednesday, June 5th at her residence in Mt. Bethel, PA.

Doris was the daughter of the late John J. and Helen (Reichardt) Honecker. Born in Queens, NY, she attended Concordia College and Adelphi College, earning a BA in Sociology. Her interest in natural history led her to positions at the Bronx Zoo’s Children’s Zoo and at the American Museum of Natural History’s (AMNH) Discovery Room in Manhattan. In 1956 she received an AMNH scholarship to the National Audubon Society’s Ecology Camp of Maine where she met her late husband Barrett “Barry” Decker Transue; they celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 5, 2020.

Doris possessed a very diverse array of interests ranging from nature, art, piano, and singing, to horses, dogs, sewing, reading, and horticulture. Her caring, loving nature touched many. She taught disabled students in Bath, PA; directed social activities at the Clover Home in Columbia, NJ; and helped many pet lovers while working at the Blairstown Animal Hospital. She also provided unwavering support and encouragement while her musically inclined family performed on the field, on stage, and in the
broadcast booth. She was a longtime member of the Garden State Norwegian Elkhound Club and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Bangor, PA.

Doris is survived by son Greggory, husband of Ruth Peters-Transue; son Brett, husband of Sarah; and daughter Elise; grandchildren Morghan, spouse of Ian Livingston; Laura; Emilie, partner of Nicholas Schake; Nicole, and Jacques; and great-granddaughter, Even Transue Livingston.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19 at Riverview Cemetery in Portland, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., "Village of Johnsonville", Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com

Not sure what to say?

To the Transue Family , Barry and Doris were kind enough to allow me to hunt on their property for many years . They were true stewards of the land. The relationship we had so many years ago and the great conversations we had will always be something I´ll cherish. My memories of them both were of two like minded people who loved nature and enjoyed to share that love with others . I´m so sorry to hear of Doris´s passing , but take comfort that she lived her life always curious and with a...

Doris was an amazing, intelligent woman and I feel so fortunate to have grown up being her neighbor. She was truly a renaissance woman and always had a smile and positivity to share. She will be remembered with love and appreciation. My condolences to Elise, Brett and Greg, and all who loved her.

Dear Transue Family, May God bless you during your period of grief over Doris´ passing. Doris, like Barry, was a big-hearted individual who supported our schools in Bangor. No one could ever count the number of hours that Barry volunteered with the Bangor Area High School Band. That wouldn´t have happened without Doris and her caring and supportive love for him and the for the students who participated in Slater Band. Those years included band performances in the United Kingdom, Canada, NYC...
