Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

CHEEK, Dorothy – Of Flint, age 94, died Monday, September 9, 2024 at Devonshire Retirement Village.


Funeral service will be held 2pm Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Mr. Tom Cheek officiating.


Visitation 12noon Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.


Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.


Those desiring, may make contributions to Volunteers of American or the Salvation Army.


Dorothy was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 31, 1930 the daughter of the late Arthur Schrade and Elizabeth (Schrade) Buckingham. Dorothy married Melvin on September 28, 1946 in Rossville, Georgia and they had been married for 52 years. She was employed with Borden’s Electronics. She retired from Mott College Food Service and volunteered at Crossroads Village for many years. Dorothy enjoyed quilt making, gardening, collecting antiques, and puzzles.


Surviving are her 4 children, Tom and wife Vickie Cheek of Clio, James and wife Kathy Cheek of Davison, Sandi (Cheek) Ash of Morristown, TN and Don Cheek of Burton;            


16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin and son, Bobby Cheek, parents, Arthur Schrade and Elizabeth (Schrade) Buckingham and her brother, Harold Schrade.
