I will miss seeing Dorothy toddling by my house each day with her trusty sketch pad in hand. She loved capturing this little town in its small town glory. Dorothy befriended me as a new Escalon resident and as a fellow artist 10 years ago. Dorothy introduced me to the local art community. She encouraged me to enter art shows. She took Spanish lessons from my daughter, Gloria Erickson, a teacher in the Escalon School District. Dorothy kept trying the rest of her life to learn Spanish. Dorothy Girling was a beautiful, kind, and generous lady who was dedicated to cultivating the artistic talents of local children, including our son. She patiently volunteered her time and talent to encourage him, and other children, to sketch and paint whatever their hearts desired. She encouraged our son to join the Oak Valley Art Society and to enter his art in many local art shows.
