GOODMAN (BROWN), Dorothy – Of Grand Blanc, age 88, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.


Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2143 South Center, Burton, Father Matthew-Peter Butrie officiating.


Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.


Contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.


Visitation 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
A Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Goodman will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service.


Dorothy was born on July 19, 1934, to Macedonian immigrants, George N. and Themyana (Chokreff) Brown (Branoff) in Flint, Michigan.


She met her husband of 47 years, Joseph H. Goodman at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, Flint (Burton) and were married on June 4, 1967. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2014.


Dorothy graduated from Flint Central High School in 1952 and The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor School of Dentistry as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 1956.


She loved being a Hygienist, working for Dr. Louis Hurwitz, Dr. David Jeremy and Dr. Mark Lodge until her retirement.


Active in the Genesee Dental Hygiene Society as secretary and was also a member of the American Dental Hygienist Association.


Dorothy was also a very active member of St. Nicholas, serving on the parish council, Church School teacher, St. Catherine’s Women’s League, church choir, bulletin crew, attending Bible Study and PAN Orthodox events and services in the Flint area as often as she could.


She also loved spending time with her family, friends, her grandchildren; attending many of their events and watching Michigan Football on Saturday’s. Hail to the Victors! GO BLUE!


Surviving are son, David (Ashley) Goodman;


daughter, Debbie (Ralph) Neely, both of Grand Blanc;


grandchildren, Joe, Sarah, Devon, Brayden and Mackenzie;


brother, Phillip (Barbara) Brown of Fenton; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and lifetime friends, Janet Williamson and Mary Ann Breece.


She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe; parents, George N. and Themyana Brown; infant brother, Victor; sisters, Helen (John) Bibilikow, Evanka (Lewis)Elieff, father and mother-in-law, Harry and Julia Goodman; brother and sister-in-law, John and Rose Goodman; sister and brother-in-law, Vi(Nick) Chizewski; nephew and niece, Michael and Susan Goodman.

Dorothy was an Amazing Woman. She was an Amazing Mother. She was an Amazing role model; for all the women around her. May she rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon her.

Aunt Dorothy was a fantastic Lady, loving, caring and beautiful. She will be missed.
