THE OLD LADY ME WRITES MY OBIT by Dorothy Jackson
Born 11/04/1947 to Jay Penoyer Delbridge and Jennie Louise Drake...ironically on their wedding anniversary....hahaha...what a present I was! So maiden name… Delbridge. I enjoyed my childhood and growing up with my 4 siblings. Later in life, I had daughters along with grandchildren and great grandchildren ...what a JOY! After I am cremated, I will reside at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly MI with my husband, James Marsa. I have chosen not to have a funeral. If you wish to do something in my honor… sing a song, dance a dance, share a laugh! And think of me.
After a life of never ever being sick, something like cancer is totally foreign to me. I am glad that family and friends have not shied away from my frank conversation regarding this illness. I spoke of flatulence/poop/pee along with any other bowel and bladder functions with everyone! ... That's all the important stuff at this point!
I never wanted to be an old person. I intended to be young no matter how many years I was given. But since I suddenly became ill and old, I decided that I did not want to be an ill, old person with additional side effects from the cause and effect of big business. This was my personal choice.
I love all my family and friends. I am very grateful for all their love and support during my time of need in order to remain open and positive regarding illness and death. I don't want any of YOU to be SAD for me. I don't know how to say goodbye nor do I want to do it. Remember me by whatever is the best memory you have of us together.
I am at peace with life and death.
And now, just some my learned wisdom to share with all of you…
Life is meant to be lived and loved. Be sure to stop and smell the roses (preferably yellow) along the journey you travel. Experience JOY...and butterflies.
Take lots of photos but experience the views in your memory... often. It's the little things that matter.
Important things do not cost money. Live in nature, see the sights, smell the aroma, feel the sun's warmth and the breeze of the wind. Hear the roar of the waves and the sounds of laughter. Taste the sweetness of hard work and success.
Choose to be happy always. Only you can make you happy.
There is always a silver lining. You might have to seriously seek it out and it might even take some time to find but it is there... but not always where or what you might expect.
Music ?? ?????? makes everything better.
Everything is temporary.
You can do whatever you set your mind to do.
Not everything should be big business.
Root for the underdog.
Travel as much as possible.
Bring Color to your Life. Color should be your Passion. My favorite has always been any green...preferably olive or army green.
Smile! Turn that frown upside down! It helps to counteract the resting bitch face that some of us have...
Ask your older relatives about any ancestry info they might have while you can. They are your greatest resource.
Care for your parents as they cared for you the best they could.
Don't live in the past... except to share those awesome memories...
You can never go backwards. The past only exists in your mind.
Forget the drama. No one else cares.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
LOVE YOU ALL!

I did not know Dorothy. I had to read her Obituary, as soon as I saw how she stared it. This woman really nailed how we all should think about life! I can tell she truly was an amazing person, and her worlds , truly are words to live by. My condolences to her family and friends.

I was very sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. The last time I saw Dorothy was at the funeral home when my father passed away. We had some time to sit and chat with each other and share some memories of a time gone by. Dorothy was a wonderful role model for me as I transitioned from young girl into a young woman. RIP Dorothy - I'm sure your family finds some relief from their sorrow of losing you knowing that you are no longer in pain. I'm...

Dorothy and I worked together at Spiegel / J&R N Saginaw in Flint. She was such a happy person with a beautiful personality. You could tell she really enjoyed her job. He face never changed she looks the same and I knew it was her by the smile. I loved working with Dorothy, she trained me to do the catalog sales job. Family my prayers are with you and the many friends she made during her lifetime. Dorothy made a positive impact on my life and I believe all those she came in contact with. To...

Dorothy was a a true friend for 31 years. She was a very special lady. She loved her retirement home in Port Huron and knew every freighter that passed by her home. She has left her broken body behind, but her spirit is soaring in heaven. May she Rest In Peace in the arms of her loving husband, Jim. My deepest sympathy to her entire family.

I didn't know Dorothy personally but was a long time friend of her sister-in-law, Linda Kirby. Linda spoke often of Dorothy but I never realized what a positive, humorous person she was. I wish I could have known her ... I know I would have really liked her.
