Dorothy M. Riley

BEVERLY — Dorothy M. (Caulfield) Riley, 84, wife of the late David W. Riley, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2008 at Salem Hospital.

Born in Salem, daughter of the late Hugh T. and Marguerite (Johansen) Caulfield, she was a graduate of Peabody High School. Following high school, Dorothy was employed with New England Telephone Co.

Dorothy married a military officer and started raising her family. In their "military life" their travels brought them to Japan and to the West Coast in Sacramento, Calif., but Beverly was always her home base. When her children were grown, Dorothy decided to go back to school. She graduated from Essex Agricultural School of Nursing. Following her graduation, she was employed with Salem Hospital.

Surviving her are six children, David Riley and his wife Gail of Merrimac, Robert S. Riley of Gloucester, Michael Riley and his wife Judy of Rowley, Christopher Riley and his wife Linda of Brunswick, Maine, Sean Riley and his wife Janet of Newmarket, N.H., Donna Regan and her husband Cornelius of Ridge Manor, Fla.; one brother, Robert J. Caulfield of Las Cruces, N.M.; 13 grandchildren, Christopher and Bonnie Waisanen, Shawna and Brian Riley, Shannon Martin, Jonathan, Kristin, Katie, Michael, Shane, Emily, Sean D., and Carolyn Riley; two great-grandchildren, Ella Martin, Jesse Pellizzaro; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Hugh Caulfield.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Beverly on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
