Thank you for your research

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

I came across this obituary four years after the fact. Mrs. Strickland was my first grade teacher at Elmwood Avenue School in East Orange in the 1957-58 school year. I have the sweetest memories of her as a kind and loving teacher. I see her smiling young face when I picture her today. I feel like she paid special attention to me, and yet I am sure most her students felt that she was giving them the same special attention. May she rest in loving peace.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Dear Michael and family, today inquiring for Dot’s phone number I was told she passed. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I loved your mother who guided me through Columbia’s doctoral program. Have written about her in the Huffington Post as well as often speaking about the gift she was/is. She often told others that she was my second mother - was honored about
that. Her legacy lives on through you and those she gifted. She told many while I was at TC that I would be the secretary of...

It was my very fortunate opportunity to have Dr. Strickland as my dissertation chair at Rutgers University while also serving as her research assistant and TA. Dorothy was the consulate mentor who guided me to become not only the classroom teacher that I became but also a professor of Literacy Education, Reading and Language Arts. Her kindness, guidance, insights and friendship will always be remembered. It is because of Dorothy that I always tried to guide my own students toward...

I was lucky enough to be a student of Dr. Strickland at Kean College in the early 1980's. She was one of the best teachers I ever had. She was brilliant, demanding and kind. I am saddened to learn of her passing. I pray for her loved ones. I know she lives on in the memories of her students. May she rest in peace.

Dorothy was one of mentors. I worked with her at Kean University in the Early Childhood Department. I admired her professionalism and willingness to share her knowledge and skills with others. She influenced her colleagues and students to persist in improving teaching and learning for all children.

Dr. Strickland was my professor at Kean College. She was very knowledgeable teaching a course in childrens literature. She will be missed for the impact she made on her students in the Education Field. Sending sympathy to her family at this sad time.
