Dorothy Dickinson (Dot) Temple, 87, of Vinton, Va., died on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.

Mrs. Temple was a client and friend of my mother when I was young. She gave me my first real job when I was about 14 picking me up on Saturday mornings and taking me to their home. She taught me the art of cleaning windows properly, along with other Saturday projects which left me tired and content with myself.
I had some fabulous meals there with her and George, both always treating me with such respect and generousity.
I think about them often and the fact that they taught me so...
