Dorothy Meickles Thaxton, loving wife of Robert Thaxton, of Charleston departed this earth on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House-West. Dorothy and Bob, who attended Bible Center Church, were happily married 59 years ago, on December 9. Dorothy led an active life as a devoted wife, mother, sister and in service to others. Dorothy had many accomplishments in her life, but cooking and nursing were her loves. She cared deeply for others and gave tirelessly of herself. Dorothy graduated from Garnet Career Center and Morris Harvey College with LPN and RN degrees. After working in several positions throughout the Kanawha Valley, she retired from Thomas Hospital. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Catherine Harrison Meickles; son-in-law, Edward Smith; sisters, Mona Jean Barnhart and Vada Mooney; brother, Glenvil "Tommy" Meickles; sister-in-law, Dena Huffman; brother-in-laws, Charles Phipps, Kenny Griffith, and Charles Mooney; and a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy is leaving a loving family consisting of her children; Robert Thaxton, Kathy Smith, and Angela (Tim) Weaver, along with five grandchildren; Allison Smith, Chad Smith, Joshua Weaver, Alexandra Weaver, and Andrea Weaver. Dorothy is also survived by siblings, Delores (Robert) Hill; Lenzy (Brenda) Meickles; Virginia Harless; Rebecca Phipps; Ella Rae Myers; sister-in-laws, Anita Griffith and Jean Meickles; and brother-in-law, William Huffman along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who have shared her life and enjoyed her generous hospitality. Any relative or friend in need knew they could depend on Dorothy for help. The family would like to thank Hubbard Hospice House-West for the kind and thoughtful care of their wife and mother. The staff support of the family through the sad loss of their loved one is greatly appreciated. A Service to Honor the Life of Dorothy will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2014 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Pastor Chad Cowan officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and Friends may visit one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd W, Charleston, WV 25378-2536.
