So sad for the loss of my dear childhood friend we grew up together we were close and the best of friends he would come in frequently to see us we played basketball together baseball we were close and great friends Doug was kind competive smart always that smile I simply loved the guy he was special so rest rest old friend gone to soon but never forgotten that's how I will remember him to Mil Bud Kay Love you so much Wife & kids celebrate this life well lived Dodie&Daphne Slone & family

For many years, Doug was an outstanding teacher, coach and administrator for the Brevard County Public School System. If you desired a job to be done right and on time, you always called on Doug. He was firm, but fair in all he did and America's schools would be much better today with administrators like Mr. Layne. Upon retirement, he was tremendously missed at Palm Bay High School and in the community.

Louise, I am so very saddened to read in today's paper about Doug. I have always regarded you both with great respect and as good KY-friendly friends. The time I was fortunate to work with Doug showed me his character as very hardworking, compassionate and willing to help anyone in anyway he could. His integrity couldn't be matched. I'm only sorry that after we both left Johnson, we lost touch. Please accept my deepest sympathy for you and your family. You are in my thoughts and...
