Doug Wielinski was killed when Continental flight #3407 crashed near Buffalo on February 12, 2009.
Wielinski, 61, was killed when the plane crashed into his Clarence, N.Y., home. His wife, Karen, told WBEN-AM that he had gone up to bed and was in the middle of the house, where the plane hit.
"He was a good person, loved his family," Karen Wielinski said of her husband.
Wielinski, a military veteran and engineer, was marketing manager at Luvata, a manufacturing company. He was interested in local history and was a past member of the 2005 Clarence Center Community Association board. He also enjoyed visiting history classes at Clarence Central High School and sharing his experiences from Vietnam with his daughters' generation, according to The Buffalo News.
"We're all deeply saddened," said Jack Alonge, director of human services at Luvata. "He was a quiet, wonderful, good person who cared deeply for his family."
The Wielinskis had lived in Ohio's Clermont County in the 1980s and '90s before moving to Clarence. They have four daughters, Jill, Kimberly, Jessica and Lori.
