I had the pleasure to know Doug both personally as a friend of the family and later professionally as his supervisor when he was a Crossing Guard.
Doug took great care in his work and the responsibility of the children he assisted at his crossing. He brought a smile to many children's faces with his daily safety comments and holiday wishes.
One cold day, I recall observing him holding back traffic longer than normal so he could retrieve the untied shoe of a child walking alone...
