I just googled Doug the last time I saw him was about five years ago I'm so saddened to see he's gone. Doug enabled me to purchase in 2009 a sidecar and ride across the US with my daughter, Helen, before I was to face "life or death" heart surgery. He silently understood that this was a last journey, performed by a novice, that was a key part of my saying goodbye to the country I had loved and served as a veteran.

I just went on Side Strider to e-mail Doug when I read the bad news...I met Doug over 30 years ago when I brought Doug my first Sidecar to have him mount it to my Bike so my Daughter, Wife and I could Ride together and it's just my Wife and I now but we still have a HACK of a Good Time Riding!

I am deeply saddened to hear that Doug has left us. I got to know him way back in the late 1960's at one of his Griffith Park Sidecar rallies. Doug was truly a leader in the sidecar universe. He was a gentle person as well as a gentleman. He will most assuredly be missed. I hope he has managed to locate a suitable rig to pilot wherever he needs to travel from here on.
