G'Dad Doug,

What a blessing for me and your youngest grandchild, Liam, to get to meet you at your family reunion. I've been fortunate to get to know you through stories from your youngest son, and of course over the phone for a bit and swap comedic emails with you. I now look forward to talking with you through folded hands of prayer.

Although me and Liam's time with you has been short, it was absolutely full, and I know as you watch from above you will delight in seeing...

Love and prayers to the whole Blackwell family. I haven't seen you folks for years, but remember you all with fondness from my days at Ohio University with Dennis. He always shares such wonderful stories about your amazing family.

Pater, Pater, Pater …

Pop, we already miss you so much … you were so strong and so much fun at our Reunion only 3-4 weeks ago … I can’t believe you’re gone now, but I know you’re in a better place. But what fun is a good Brain Teaser or a good game of cribbage if it isn’t against you ? I have tried to figure all of this out on the Slide Rule that you gave me in High School … :~D … but your loss still hurts. We were soooo lucky to have you as our father … I never once worried...

A Happy Card Playing Doug Blackwell

How much do I love my Pater?! I will so miss you- I'm so glad that you're the Dad I picked out. (Dennis didn't have a choice- he was along for the ride.) Lots of love for you, Pater, lots of love all the time, for all time- from me and mine. Love, Di

Doug was my brother-in-law and a dear friend for the 55 years of his and Jean's marriage. My husband and Doug were buddies and teammates from college and the four of us had some bright and memorable times together with our collective 11 children. We were blessed by his presence in our lives and Doug will ever be a favorite and fond memory for all of us. Salute, dear Doug.

Doug was a wonderful father and great friend. He was admired by our whole family and will be missed. We share a long history of enjoyable summers at Copper Springs and will remember them forever. We send our sympathy to Jean your entire family.
