Douglas Roy Chaney, 70, passed away in his home on August 28, 2023, in Iowa Park, Texas.

Doug was born on September 22, 1952, to Roy Francis Chaney and Shirley Cochran Chaney in Miami, Oklahoma. He graduated from Miami High school (May 21,1970). On May 25, 1970, with the support of his father, Doug signed a track scholarship with Howard Payne University in Brownwood Texas, a Christ-centered academic community dedicated to excellence.  Some of his most memorable moments in track were in 1972, he was awarded most improved track athlete, the Howard Payne College Yellow Jacket recognition award as track captain & outstanding runner (1973-1974) and even made it into the paper with his last track meet at the Howard Payne Invitational where he won a gold medal in the 880 with a time of 1:55.4.  He graduated from Howard Payne in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Our community sadly lost an important member, Doug Chaney will leave a big gap in our community and will be sorely missed. Doug had over 37 years of experience as a Farmers Insurance agent in Wichita Falls. During his time at Farmers, he won several awards such as Topper Club, Farmers The Blue Vase, Farmers Leadership and various Farmers District 15 awards. Doug was the president of the OU club of Wichita Falls. He was very passionate about OU and dedicated much of his time to helping others experience the amazing culture that OU has to offer. In April of 2021 the OU CLUB of Wichita Falls was able to award academic scholarships to six area students for the soon to be incoming freshman at the University of Oklahoma. The local scholarships were matched by the university.

Doug is survived by his only son Kyle Chaney and two grandchildren.

Doug is also survived by his sisters Brenda Randall, Missy Hodges, and brother Bryan Chaney.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents Roy Francis Chaney, Shirley Cochran Chaney, and brother Kelly Chaney.

Doug leaves such a loss to our community. Ed and I first met Doug when we joined the OU Club here in W. Falls. Doug inspired everyone & there was no bigger fan anywhere! He led our club to earn scholarship money for so many Wichita Falls graduating seniors. Rest in Peace...

I remember Coach Chaney from 7th grade history class - he always made it interesting and fun! I'm praying for Kyle and the rest of the Chaney family.

Good guy gone too soon. Prayers to his family and Robin!

My memories of Doug go back to when he and I taught at Iowa Park Middle School. Years later he was our insurance agent. He was a good man and loving father. My thoughts and prayers are with his son, Kyle, and other family members.
