Kirkley-Ruddick Funeral Home - Glen Burnie Obituary

Douglas L. Ensley, known affectionately as "Big Daddy" of Severna Park, MD passed away on November 6, 2024 at the age of 88. He was born on October 3, 1936, in Winder, Georgia, to the late Clarence Lee and Rozie Bentley Ensley.

Mr. Ensley proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He later attended the University of Georgia and the University of Maryland, where he continued his academic and professional endeavors. A dedicated and hardworking individual, Mr. Ensley worked as a
Constable for the State of Maryland and as a successful real estate investor, retiring at the age of 77.

He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, where he enjoyed consulting on church building projects. Douglas was also involved in his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club, an advocate for the YMCA, and served as PTA President. His heart for service extended to
the McKim Center, where he volunteered with young people.

Mr. Ensley enjoyed playing handball, tennis, and checkers. He had a lifelong love for music and played several instruments, including the bass guitar. Douglas’s generosity, strong work ethic, and commitment to his family and community defined his life, and he was deeply loved and
admired by all who knew him.

Mr. Ensley is preceded in death by his brothers Clarence, Willard, Clinton, Henry, James, Gerald, and Kenneth Ensley, and his sisters Bobbie Jean Manders and Kathlyn Huff.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marcella L. Holman Ensley; his daughter Cynthia Ensley Barlock (David); and his cherished grandchildren Cassidy Spring Wiley (Mark), Kate Summer Barlock, and Jacob David Barlock. He will be dearly missed by his family and many
friends who were touched by his warmth, wisdom, and generosity.

In honor of Doug's dedication to church growth and expansion, donations are welcomed to support the expansion of a Christian elementary educational facility at Faith Church. To contribute, please make checks payable to FAITH Glen Burnie and include "FOR:40" in the memo line.

Family and friends may gather at the Faith Baptist Church, 7378 E. Furnace Branch Road, Glen Burnie, Maryland, 21060, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 9:30am -11:00am. Funeral service to follow at 11:00am. On site reception after the service.

Not sure what to say?

Doug was a wonderful person of strong character.
And he was quite the “character.”

He was wise, engaging, and generous.
He had a big heart and a fine sense of humor.
He was a joy to be around.

He was a man who got things done.
He will always have a special place in our hearts.

A life well lived.
Until we meet again.

Much love,

Stephen & Patti Dayton and family
