My beloved friend Doug was my classmate at Jay Hi (as we called it then) back in the forties, when Douglas Island still had its own high school. I loved him like the brother he came to be for me, advising me, helping and protecting me when others in my class found it fun to "pick on" young, helpless, skinny Beverly Lane. A great neighbor and wonderful family man, as well as a great musician!

I loved it when he heard the jam session in my living room from across the street, grabbed his guitar and amp, and showed up at my front door asking if he could sit in.

We have just noticed the news of Doug's passing. It brings to us so many fond and warm memories of him and all the family. What a remarkable and valuable addition to the history of Juneau and of Alaska that he, and his family, have made. Our condolences and very best wishes go out to all the family.
