Douglas Hauser Obituary

Hauser, Douglas David, passed away on January 16, 2015, at the age of 81 in Montgomery, Alabama. Doug was born in Oak Lawn, Illinois, to Anna and Theodore Hauser on January 25, 1933. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, on the USS Great Sitkin AE-17. Doug worked for 18 years at Rheem Manufacturing, in Chicago, IL and then in Montgomery, AL. During his retirement, Doug became Vice President of the USS Great Sitkin AE-17 Association, and responsible for hosting 7 reunions for his shipmates, all over the East Coast. Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, January 19th from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 20th at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Winston Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Doug is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Hauser; his mother Anna Hauser; and his brother, Theodore Hauser, all of Oak Lawn, IL. Doug is survived by wife, Kathryn of Montgomery, Alabama; daughter, Jennifer Geoppinger, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his sister, Edna Baker of Oak Lawn, IL; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Baptist South Neuro ICU for their compassionate and thoughtful care of Doug.

Its been five years since Dougs sudden passing and not a single Great Sitkin reunion goes by that doesnt bring a tear or two to my eyes. To me he was the most gentlest of gentlemen and I will always keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Sail on Doug.
