Not sure what to say?

Dear Horning Family,

I was very sorry to hear of your loss. I have many happy memories playing softball under Doug's leadership for the Ann Arbor Aces and enjoying times with your family very much. Thinking of you all. Wishing you peace and comfort thinking of the many happy times.

Best Wishes,
Molly E. Ominsky (Grimes)

I wrestled for Doug and Harry at Pioneer from 1969 til 1972 and was more positively influenced by them than any other Pioneer staff. Good people like them are hard to find and harder to replace. RIP Doug and my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Sending deepest sympathy and condolences to the Horning family.

To the family of Doug Horning,
We are so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I remember visiting the MDen with my father, Rosey, many times. Doug was always jovial and willing to give my dad breaks on his Michigan gear. My father was grateful for the friendship that he had with Doug.

I pray that you will have peace and sweet memories in the days to come.

As was stated several times over the past week or so, Doug Horning is the greatest man I've ever met. Kind, caring, generous, always made the person he was speaking with feel important..but "real" as Troy said. All the accolades should have made the rest of us feel like jerks in comparison..I know I did..lol Thought I'd share my favorite story. Better than when he pulled me off a blackjack table in Vegas after I went on a hot streak and started coming back down. Better than being at work...

Dear Horning Family: I am so very sorry for your loss, and my prayers are with you in this tough, tough time. Doug was my dad's lifelong friend, and I often heard tales of their wrestling victories, softball conquests, and other shenanigans. I was also lucky to have Doug help me with my softball pitching skills, which required much patience and a sense of humor. He was able to transform my wobbly tosses into respectable pitches. I hope that your memories of Doug help ease the pain of his...

I consider myself fortunate to have known Doug since I wrestled on the Ann Arbor High team that he co-captained back in the early 1960's, and especially value the six years I spent as his assistant coach when he guided that same team a few years later. Undeniably a fine and versatile athlete, he was an even finer person, always displaying the best qualities found in the most admirable people. While this cannot surprise anyone who ever met his parents, it did present a rare gift to all who had...

Living Spirit Dishgarden

Very sorry to learn of Doug's passing. First met Doug before he and Dave decided to buy Stein & Goetz. He was just one of those guys that anyone would love to say he was their best friend. A man of his word, humble as could be. He will be deeply missed by his Family, friends and community! Sincere condolences to Lorrinda, children and grandchildren. With my deepest sympathy.
