Not sure what to say?

Today, I literally stumbled upon the grave of Douglas Mattern at the Gate of Heaven in Los Altos. I wasn't looking for him. Mattern's name was instantly recognizable to me as I think my (late) parents knew him. I doubt I ever met him, but who knows? Good to read a bio of Mattern here and to finally learn something about the man whose name I had often heard and read. Ruben, a few minutes ago I found copies of Mattern's book, Looking for Square Two, listed on eBay and on Alibris. I...

Doug worked for me back in the 80's but it was like we worked together. I didn't know of all the work he did outside of work. A great professional with an SEM and maintained his peace when others around him were in a panic. Kept his political and business lives separate, so not an issue at work. Still trying to get a copy of his book. Miss you Doug.

Doug worked for me doing failure analysis at Data General. I was so impressed on how he kept his job and his outside passions of peace worldwide. I truly enjoyed knowing him and having him share his stories. A great storyteller once you got him going. A shame for me when he left DG.

Doug reported to me at Data General in the 80's and it was a great time. Consummate professional and he kept his peace activities separate from his work except for those times he needed time off to go to Russia to lead a peace march. Always a quiet man, and people would say "He needs time off for what?" Miss him and his point of view.

Douglas Mattern was a inspirational leader; advocating that we are all world citizens through his organization Association of World Citizens. He will be truly missed and his vision will continue.

Truely a great guy. A professional and a nice guy at the same time. Really enjoyed having Doug work for me at Data General.
