Douglas A. McKinnon

Many years ago (50+ years) our son was born with a cleft lip and partial cleft pallet. Dr. McKinnon did the repair surgery for our son, he did a wonderful repair. I just saw this memorial for him and wanted to tell his family...we have always been SO GRATEFUL for his help. This is our son, one can´t really even tell, Dr. McKinnon did a superb job! We´ll ALWAYS be so grateful to him. I send blessings to ALL his family!

I was so saddened and shocked to see Doug McKinnon's picture in the paper this Sunday. He is one of the kindest, gentlest men I have ever known. I had the privilege to work for Doug for 10+ years off and on. He was an amazing and gifted surgeon, and also an amazing and gifted person! He showed genuine interest in getting to know people and had a huge thirst for knowledge. My heart goes out to his beautiful wife, Hannelore and his entire family. He will be missed.

In the few years and brief interludes we shared together when I visited Denver, it was my honor to have known Doug. He was a man who spoke his mind, a man to be trusted, a man who could share good humor, a man who will be missed.

My admiration for Doug and my sympathy for his loss are extended to his entire family.

Doug was a gentle soul with an enormous heart. He was blessed to be surrounded for much of his life by great beauty created by his devoted wife (with her own great beauty)! and the amazing, gracious homes she created for their family. His spirit will live on in her heart and the hearts of all of us who were touched by this fine man.

Doug and I took Pilates classes together over the past four months. We also used to play tennis back when the "dinosaurs were walking the earth." I always appreciated his dry sense of humor and persistence in the face of adversity. He was a real inspiration to me.

A wonderful doctor and an even better friend. Usually surgeons don't have the heart and soul that Doug did. He was truly one of a kind and I will miss him terribly. My heart goes out to his beloved wife and children. Terri Westhafer

What a unique doctor!!!! I always looked forward to the days I would work in Doug's office. We would always have lunch together and with his characteristic warm smile, he would say "so what's going on in your life Lynnie?" With great interest, we would catch one another up on the events of the previous week and then set off to work. He loved his patients, and oh how they loved him!! He would answer their questions honestly, often talking them out of surgery, as he could only see their...

My memories are of his sweet lazy smile, his fierce anger for the under dog, his tennis whites and his favorite wine, the time he told a 16 year old girl that she didn't need plastic surgery because "she was beautiful just the way she was." I remember a man of passion and vulnerability, strength and an unexpected belly laugh on a warm summer evening that sent tears down my face.
I am grateful for the experiences with Doug, he was a good man.

A dear and special friend for 50 years, you have been loved and admired and will be missed greatly. My whole family joins in sending our prayers and best wishes.
