Not sure what to say?

My husband Tom Murtha was one of the lucky ones, befriended and taken under Doug's wing in Comm 68 and beyond. We had many good times with Doug and Audrey and I'm sorry they are all gone now. The last time I saw Doug was at Tom's celebration of life. My condolences to Doug's family and friends. He was a good man with a wicked sense of humour. Sincerely, I'm sorry I didn't know sooner.

He was a wonderful father.

Doug was a very bright, personable guy, who also served as a mentor to some of us lesser lights in Commerce '63.
Rest in peace, Doug!

My condolences from a former Queens Commerce classmate.
He was so ahead of the rest of us in business wisdom, having come back to Queens after a 10 year absence as a "mature student". Nevertheless he made sure that he fit well into our group in spite of the considerable age gap.
I am sure that all of his classmates will also remember him fondly.

Doug was a model Canadian, public servant, boss, and progressive. I had the immense honour and pleasure to serve as his E.A. while he was Secretary of State.

Garth McNaughton, Toronto

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to your family at this difficult time. Doug was a remarkable man who touched the lives of many. May your memories keep you strong!

I had many happy and cherished times with Doug and his lovely wife, Audrey, who was my first cousin. Doug was indeed debonair with an irreverent sense of humour that would always send us into gales of laughter! He was a devoted husband and father and one of the most intelligent and well traveled men I knew. He taught me to set my own course in life and more importantly, not to be influenced by the opinions of others. Doug will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers to Doug's family and...

I was honoured to share wonderful New Year's Eve celebrations with Doug and his beloved Judy for the past few years. So much laughter generated from this debonair gentleman. So many wonderful stories from an important life lived large. His legacy will live on for years to come.

We will hold him in our hearts this coming New Year's Eve and raise a toast to this extraordinary Canadian.
