Not sure what to say?

I grew up with Doug and lived the next street over on NE Brazee. We were best friends and met in first grade. Lots of happy memories of playing baseball in his backyard, collecting and trading baseball cards, and sleep overs. We lost touch after high school, I but remember seeing him on the news as the spokesman for the Port of Portland. I only learned of his death today. My condolences to his family and friends on the loss of such a fine man.

Sorry to hear of Douglas' passing, and my warmest thought to Mrs Roberts to overcome his departure from that earthy plane.
Death does not end life, as I trust, and his soul will keep marching on.
KInd regards

Dear Kathy and family,
I'm saddened by the loss of Doug.
I had the opportunity to work with Doug before and after I came to the Port, and he was one of the hardest working individuals I have ever known.
He was also a tenacious competitor on the golf course, and we always enjoyed a little good-spirited rivalry.
My heart is with you!

Dearest Kathy and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Doug's passing, especially to Covid-19. Although I barely knew Doug I had the opportunity to teach with his wonderful wife, Kathy the three years I spent at Ellsworth school.
I did have the opportunity to speak with Doug on the phone when I worked at District office and he was at the airport. I can't remember the topic but he was very helpful, a real sweet guy. So knowledgeable.
I am so sorry for your loss and am thinking of you...

Kathy: Please know my heart and thoughts are with you during this time of grieving. And know that you are not alone in remembering a truly wonderful person and friend that meant so much to so many. RIP my old golfing buddy..

There were indeed five of us Roberts children, Doug the oldest and me the youngest with only six years between he and I. With five kids in a matter of six years and a big backyard we did host plenty of outdoor games in the neighborhood. It was a lot of fun.

I also remember my brothers playing a very original version of baseball with their baseball cards on the living room floor. Playing board games like Monopoly and Risk worked well for someone with a competitive edge like...

My brother, Doug, and I shared a bedroom until he went away to college. More importantly, we shared many interests. We loved collecting baseball cards and had about 2000 of them that we used to create many different games before there were electronic ones. We also memorized the stats on the back of most of the cards. He had an incredible mind for details. We loved playing wiffleball in the back yard for hours on end. We also loved history and learning. We would spend hours just reading...

As a school mate of Doug's sisters Dana and Denise I knew Doug as a Student Teacher at Parkrose High School. He was a funny and patient guy and put up with our shenanigans with a wry smile. I later met with Doug when he was with the Port of Portland. Always a welcoming warm smile and recognition even though i was many years younger. "Say hi to your sister Pam" Doug would always say in parting. Gone too soon. My condolences to the Roberts family for their loss

I had the pleasure of coaching baseball with Doug for four years. As others have mentioned, he had a extremely competitive spirit. Whether it be baseball, board games, golf, or fantasy baseball he was always eager to compete. However, unlike many highly competitive coaches he only demonstrated positive reinforcement toward all our players. He was very organized and that organization contributed to his success on the field. I was not as aware of his many business accomplishments, but it is...
