Not sure what to say?

Doug and I played sports together at lake oswego h.s.he made a difference on our teams.we stayed in touch throughout the years and shared fishing time.every time I caught a steelhead,I would say this one is for you dougie.doug made a difference in my life and many others.gone, but not forgotten.

I miss fishing for steelhead with Doug on the Deschutes and Skeena. Good memories! His wisdom is also missed on the Native Fish Society board. Tom Derry

Fishing for Steelhead on the Deschutes is competitive. One morning I just knew. Had hauled out before Doug and would be the first to get into our favorite hole by Desperation Flats. As I approached the bank to descend to the river in the dark, a voice calls out from the river below "good morning!". It was Doug already in the hole!

Dear Nan and Lauren.......I am still on the lower Deschutes River below Macks Canyon as much as I can. So far in 2019 I have been in the canyon 9 days and over nite too. I think about Doug and the good times we have had together on that section of the river. The 2018 fires did much damage. Burned the water tower and Harris Ranch building. Burned the composting toilet at Robertson Point. 2018 was a bad fire year for the Deschutes and 2019 is not looking very good as there is so much new growth...

I can still see Doug before first light already set up for fishing his favorite steelhead hole at North Junction. I would start to climb down in the dark to slide into the slot and he would call out "good morning" from under the bushes! He always beat me to that hole!

We just learned of Doug's passing. Nan and Lauren, our heartfelt condolences. As you know, we go back to our school days in Lake Oswego. I will always remember his smile and laugh and self-deprecating sense of humor.

Dear Nan and family. Doug and I grew up chasing fish and women. I am thankful to have spent time with him last year at the cabin. Doug was a great man because he made all those around him feel great. Pat

Nan and Lauren,
I learned of Doug's death this evening. I am so sorry. We knew of your family intense vigil, love and careful caregiving for all of these years. We know how much he was in love with his wife and daughter and his purpose- filled life. We walk with you in transition and loss and will continue to nurture and reach out to you. Deepest hugs. We will indeed take time to sit by a river and think of his great life and his deep commitments. With all our love, Lars and Marna
