Not sure what to say?

Doug and I were friends and fellow musicians from 5th grade through high school. Band with Cornel De Mey and Cornelius VanderPuy. Several small ensembles and Dixieland Band. Had a lot of fun together...Camp Maranatha, Doing looies in his 53 chevy on the fields at Knollcrest(before Calvin was built there). We lost touch after HS.My condolences to the family. Neal Mast

He was such a great guy. I remember him coming to my dressing room to ask me about tempos for Nutcracker. I was 19, and the conductor of The Grand Rapids Symphony came to me to ask about tempos. Just a small example of what a great conductor he was. Thank you Doug. You will be missed.

Although Doug was a grade ahead of me in band and orchestra, I know that he was loved and respected by my father who, for the rest of his life, was proud of the small part he played in Doug's life.

Doug Scripps was my 3rd trumpet teacher (Dad, my brother Chuck (a fellow GRJC teacher), then Doug). Started in 10th grade in his basement. Most inspiring private teacher and band conductor of all (including U-M). Gave me great literature like Hindemith Trumpet sonata ... too many to list. He was HUGE in my life at the time and in my musical development. Great loss for Michgan musicians!

I'm sad to hear of Doug's passing. I knew him in high school and enjoyed accompanying him for solos. He was a great trumpeter and I knew that he would have a successful career. Blessings to his family. Anne de Vroome

I was a classmate of Doug at Seymour Christian elementary school as well as Grand Rapids Christian High. I had the privilege of being in band with Doug at both Seymour and Christian High. He was always a fabulous trumpet player and a great kid to be around. Thanks for the memories, Doug.

I am so sorry to hear this news, and my thoughts are with all his family. One of my favorite memories of Doug is the Christmas he and his boys came to our house in Alma with all their brass instruments, and presented us with a lovely Christmas concert! I know he will be so very missed.
