Not sure what to say?

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the Sheffield family for your loss. Though I had not seen him since our 20th NHS reunion I am indebted to Doug for sharing with me his passion for Basketball and life during our formative years. We also shared a common interest in music and passed hours playing guitar together when we weren't on the hardwood. I was happy that he was "still making music" as he reported at our last meeting. I'm sad that his music is now prematurely quieted.

As with everyone else who has signed the Guest Book for Doug, I can only express my surprise and sadness at his untimely passing.

Doug was a great guy to know at Northside High School. His interests were obvious to those who knew him: basketball and music. He wasn't afraid to do things a little differently, either, as his high school wedding and the name he chose for his son indicated.

As others have mentioned, when you think of Doug you think of the guitar and...

I was saddened to learn of Doug's death. Although I haven't seen him since the days at NHS, I can still see him on the basketball court, in the hallways and just around. It was good just be around him. He'll be missed by all those who knew him.
My condolecences to his family.

Words cannot express how sad that I am about Douglas's passing. I didn't know him from high school, but I did know him as a young man. I fell in love with his gentle nature, intelligence, sharp sense of humor, and infectious laugh. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I hope that the feelings of loneliness become less painful soon, leaving only the good memories that I know that you have of Douglas. Goodnight, sweetheart, goodnight. I love you. I always have.

This is such sad news. Our sympathy goes out to the Sheffield family. Those of us who knew him at Northside High remember his laugh, and his great sense of humor. He really enjoyed life. To leave this world at age 50 is such a tragedy.

Play on, DS.

Doug will be deeply missed by all. My sincerest condolences to all of the Sheffield family and friends.

I miss Doug Sheffield. I have not seen or spoken to Doug in many, many years. But during our high school years we spent the best hours of our days together - basketball practice. Doug was my friend and teammate. I value those relationships more deeply than I can express. I think of the many others who are grieving this loss with me now. I think especially of Doug’s father who I met the same rainy afternoon at the Trinity gym that I met Doug. It was a day like today. We were 14. Oh, how his...

I moved to Atlanta in the summer of 68 just as I was beginning 8th grade at Northside High School. Doug too had just moved here and lived right behind me at Cross Creek Apts. Doug had the downstairs to himself so it was a good place to hang out. I remember listening to Hendrixs' first album there. I remember Doug had every 45 the Beatles ever put out. I remember listening to the White Album before we knew that was Clapton on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Our first close...

My sincere condolences to Doug and his family. We were high school classmates at Northside and I have many fond memories of his humor and joy of life.
