Dear Kay, family and friends - Part 4

Snowmobiling -Doug loved riding on the trails and roads (always at full speed) while we stayed at my brother George's cottage in Peacock/Irons Area on Au Sable Lake, the motor home trips up north to Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie to attend the SnoPro Races in very cold 15 degrees below zero weather, AND, that wild night running on Whiskey Creek and then on top of thin ice under the Mackinaw Bridge almost into open water! We were very lucky we...

Dear Lori and Family,

Dear Kay, family and friends - Part 2

Some of my earliest memories of Doug begin with the summer weekends we spent up north at Croton County Park on the Muskegon River where his folks had a tent cottage, the great perch fishing, Ron Parson's 1948 Mercury convertible, taking beer into the movie theater in Newaygo, and our escapades confiscating beer from the campers in the park during their big weekend cookout parties!

Dear Kay, family and friends,

My family and I are deeply saddened by the loss of such a giant of a man like Doug. He will forever loom in my mind and heart as a jubulant, friendly, stern, outrageous, crazy father figure and friend. The Vickery's were part of my childhood, adolescence and young adulthod. Doug and Kay opened up their home and hearts to the Haapalas and I know that my mother and father cherished their companionship and trust. Of course,...

Dear Kay, family and friends - Part 1

Having known Doug since 2nd grade at Stocking School enables me to say that I have known him longer than anyone including (almost) his own family. There are far too many memories to properly put into this text so I will highlight the events that stand out most in my memory and they will be present in a collection of several guestbook entries, AND, I am sure many of these memories will be shared with alot of Doug's good friends as well!
