Not sure what to say?

Professor Yates was the best professor I had at Yale. His class and works, including the Ungovernable City (still on my shelf at work), have inspired me to tackle tough problems with vigor. If only our cities today would consider his observations and adopt his prescriptions for the ills that are present, we would be on the way to solving our urban challenges.

One of the best Teachers I had at Yale - approachable, knowledgeable and extremely accomplished in all things - he would have been All_Ivy in football as well had he not suffered a knee injury his sophomore year - I was so sorry to see this when I went on line to order a new copy of the Ungovernable City -

Doug was the finest student I taught at Yale. I supervised his Scholar-of-the-House project during his senior year, and I warmly supported his application for a Rhodes Scholarship. My sincere condolences to his wife and children.

Doug was one of the most wonderful teachers I had at SOM. His brilliance and wit made his class fun yet challenging. His gentle ways allowed this bumpkin from Colorado to find his footing in the rarified air of the Yale. I teach now and use lessons from Doug's class.

Doug was one of the kindest and most impressive students I met when we were undergraduates in college. He was never too busy to help me with stories for The Yale Daily News. He had a delightful sense of humor. He will be missed. Marilyn joins me in sending our love to the Yates family.
