Read MoreI am saddened to see this on FB. CVN -70 was my first command after A-school & I was not happy because I was the only one in my class to get ships company. Captain Borchers made that ship my best command even when I look back on 13+ years of service. He did say "do just one good thing today". I was older as a new recruit but I still learned a lot about myself and my shipmates. RIP Sir

He was my very first CO onboard Carl Vinson CVN-70. He changed the nickname for "Battlestar" to "Gold Eagle" which they still use today. I remember every time he got done with announcements he´d say "pick one thing you do every day, and do it just a little better today". I told my sailors that for the rest of my 20 years until I retired then have told my kids that. He never knew how much he influenced my life. God Speed Skipper; we have the watch!
