Not sure what to say?

I just found out that Mr. Hall passed away in 2016 and wanted to express my deepest sympathy. I was in his first Science Topic Seminar class at Tuscaloosa High School and one thing I learned from Mr. Hall was not to limit my ability to learn by my bias toward learning. If you knew him you understand! My friends and I took him deer hunting early one morning and even though we did not see a deer, to be around this remarkable man was worth the time we spent "hunting". I learned more about myself...

All these years later, Cap'n John, and you are still with me. Every time I parody another song I remember what joy you took in our "dig ditties"-Mosquitoes, It's Hard to be Humble, and all the others. Or explain to someone why that is a not only harmless but helpful black rat snake, NOT a skinny five foot long cottonmouth . . . or how to tell whether the snakeskin they found in their barn was shed by a venomous or non-venomous one . . . I have to fight the urge to grab a baseball cap and flip...

Miss my good friend and hunting buddy. :(

Dearest John. He remains one of my all-time favorite people, and the summers I spent teaching fledgling archaeologists how to do a professional excavation on his Expeditions are among my most treasured memories. I do not blush to confess that I still "talk to" him on a semi-regular basis. If there is a heaven, I am sure he's listening from there and hears every word.

So very sad to hear of John's passing. We have lost our Samwise. My sons, Alex and Baker Quinby, and I have such fond memories of him. Please know that our thoughts and prayers go out especially to Rosa, and to all of John's family.

I grew up with John in Anniston and with him at Explorer Scouts at the Presbyterian church. I am glad that John made such a positive impression on so many lives.

Everett and I enjoyed John at the Alabama Historical Association meetings. The first time I met John was when he taught our oldest son at Tuscaloosa. And he let Vaughn take care of the snakes in his classroom, even let him bring one home for the weekends several times. He and his brothers and sister thought he was a Grand teacher; and Everett and I also think he was one of the few "Best Teacher" they all ever had. I know we are only a few who will miss him; we...

My heartfelt condolences to the Hall Family in the loss of your loved one. Please find comfort in knowing God is close to the brokenhearted and hears our prayers. May God comfort your hearts and give you peace and strength to endure in the days ahead (Jeremiah 29:11,12_.

I will always have fond memories of the time I spent with John and my brother, Doug Jones, duck hunting and blowing things up. He was a master with explosives! Some people deserve to live forever - John was among that elite group. Kindest regards, Warren Jones
