Bailey & Foster Funeral Home - Palestine Obituary

Dr. Betty Sue Wilson, born November 25, 1938, in Houston County, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2025. She was the daughter of Sam and Della Kirksey, both of whom preceded her in death. Betty was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, HC Wilson, her sister Mary Lou Taylor, her stillborn son Johnny Dale Almand, and her grandsons Terry Huffines and Joshua Wilson.

A woman of deep faith, Betty believed strongly in the power of education and the importance of personal growth evident by her receiving a Master’s Degree in Business and Doctorate in Theology. Her passion for learning and teaching was a cornerstone of her life, and she instilled these values in her family and those who knew her and blessed many family members with a college education. Betty also had a deep love for travel, cherishing the opportunities she had to explore the world and broaden her horizons.

In 1979, Betty and her husband, HC, founded Wilson Culverts, a business that they grew and nurtured together. It was a testament to their hard work, dedication, faith, and the strength of their partnership. Betty’s entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to her family and community left a lasting impact.

Beyond her business endeavors, Betty was the founder and pastor of Family of Faith Church, where she led with grace, compassion, and an unshakeable devotion to her faith.  Soon after, she opened a day care and private school at the church. Her church family will remember her as a loving leader, mentor, and friend, whose guidance and wisdom touched the lives of many.  Though she became blind and had to give up preaching full-time, she was able to fill in and gave her last sermon at First Congregational Methodist Church of Elkhart on February 24, 2024.

Betty’s legacy is one of love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her children: Larry Wilson (Karen), Kay Henderson, Roy Almand, and Sammy Almand (Karen); grandchildren: Christi Hamby, Samantha Pyle (Ernest

), Jennifer Pope (Bernie), Ken Dancer (Pamela), David Huffines, Richard Huffines (Tracey), Stephanie Willis (Jeff), Jan Wilson, Joe Wilson (Elizabeth), Steffen Wilson (Karla), JR Wilson (Dee), and Jodie Zimmerman (Shawn); her loving caregivers: Lisa Johnson, Geraldine Martin, Cathey McKinney, Wendy Shipper, and Judy Hamby; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for Betty Wilson will be held at First Congregational Methodist Church in Elkhart on January 8, 2025 at 10 A.M. followed by a service at 11 A.M with Brother David Franklin and Brother Jason Hoffman officiating.

Pallbearers are Mason Huffines, Colton Hamby, Jayden Brown, Chase Barnett, Paul Barnett, and Greg Barnett.

Not sure what to say?

I wish we would have known . I remember my mother talked about you often (Doris Lambright). I read your bio what a remarkable GODLY woman you must have been.

Dear granny,
I love as my mother, you’ve been there for me so many times I can’t even count through thick and thin you were always there. I miss you dearly. I can feel your presence with me everyday. I’m having a heck of a time with your passing. But I know in my heart I will see you again. I love you grannypawpaw!!

Rest in peace Mama see you on the other side

We've had our disagreements, but I've really loved you. I very much know I miss you. You and H.C. are in Heaven together.

You were my biggest supporter, motivator, and comforter. You prayed continuously over us and those prayers were always felt. I’m glad I was able to spend time with you before you were called home. I love you so very much!

You will be missed dearly. Sorry I'm unable to attend. Rest in peace Aunt Betty.

Granny, even though we didn't agree on things, I love and respected you. You will be very missed.

Larry, Kay and family, it is with deepest sympathy that I write this. I am so sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you all. Jannie Smith

rest in peace granny! we love you and miss you always
