One night when I was editor of The Bona Venture, the university president came by our office. He wondered where George was and what he did as advisor. I took George's critique of the previous issue of the BV from the bulletin board and handed it over. Probably 15 pages. Certainly single-spaced. I met with George every week for his critiques. Thank you, George, for how you formed me as a journalist.

Dr. Evans´ courses, especially Editing and Graphics, provided the fundamentals that I used every day of my 45-year career as a print and broadcast journalist. He and Dr. Jandoli also inspired me to teach journalism students at three colleges as an adjunct professor. He was a teacher, mentor, and friend during my four years at Bonaventure, and he was a part of me each and every day ever since, and always will be.

I'm so sorry for the loss of George. My deepest condolences to Susan. I cannot describe how many times over the course of my career that I turned in the direction of St. Bonaventure and thanked God for putting me in the same place as Dr. Evans who simply was one of the most influential people in my life.

I had the privilege to have George as one of my journalism professors at Bonaventure. He was not only my teacher, he was a mentor and a friend. He shared his knowledge and wisdom that helped numerous Bona grads follow in his professional footsteps. He will be missed. Condolences to his family and many friends.

So sad to hear of Dr. Evans' passing. He inspired me during my years in SBU journalism courses in the early 1970s and my 35-year career in the newspaper business.

As i read his obituary, i'm sitting at work designing a daily newspaper front page, using skills learned at St. Bonaventure 45 years ago from Dr. Evans. RIP.
