Not sure what to say?

I just recently heard about Doc's passing. He was one of those educators that I look back on with admiration and respect. "Educator" is the right description for Dr. Payne. He did more than teach musical notes and the right marching steps to bring together an excellent halftime show for Friday night football. He instilled discipline, teamwork, perseverance and an enduring love of music that still lives in me today. His legacy will live for many generations.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Dr. Payne was my band director in junior high and high school. He taught his students so much more than music and we all respected and adored him. He helped shape our lives in so many ways. Jerry and Marilyn Payne were two of the best people that ever walked the earth. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

God Bless You! Dr. Payees ability to describe a score to his Orchestra was second to none! I was 16 when he introduced me to Wes Montgomery on guitar. He was truly one of my mentors. There was nothing like the Ash band that he conducted in the 70s absolutely nothing like it. What a wealth of knowledge we have lost! Thank you for your guidance and your love, rest in peace! Dief❤

I am so sorry for your loss. Dr Payne, was always a very sweet and kind man. He will be dearly missed.

Lisa & I are praying for y'all. Though we grieve with you, we also celebrate that Doc is forever home & has left such a great legacy.

So sorry for your loss! I truly enjoyed working and performing with Dr. Payne. He always had a smile and a good joke. Prayers for peace for family.

Single Memorial Tree

Sending my condolences to the family of Dr Jerry Payne and a thank you for sharing him with us. He was a remarkable man who raised such an enormous family of musicians over the years. I only knew him briefly as a starting freshman at Alexandria Senior High in '69 but was so inspired by his knowledge of music, his dedication for perfection and to always strive for the highest of standards. Lessons that I still use to this day as a measure of excellence. Thank you, Dr Payne, for everything...
