Not sure what to say?

My uncle Bill was such a sweet, dear man and a wonderful brother to my mother, Dorothy Harman Smith. I have such fond memories of him and our families occasional vacationing together when we were children. He was a blessing to his family and to all who knew him. Aunt Betty, Mary Lynn, and Jane: May Our Heavenly Father comfort you and your families in his loss, but give you utmost joy in his long life. With love, Sherry and family

Dr. Harmon's obituary was posted on the Facebook page entitled "I Grew Up in Staunton, Virginia". To date, there have been 74 comments much like those posted here. His was a life well lived!

Dr. Harmon helped save our son's life in 1957, when he was born with some very serious medical problems and was not expected to live! Dr. William Painter, My physician, called him in for consult, Our son was one of the first newborns in the desegregated Nursery. Dr. Harmon took good care of him and through many prayers and Dr. Harmon our son lived and is now 57 years old. We thank him for standing up for what a true and good Doctor does! Dr. Harman was a great example of genuine humanity.

No Doctor will ever be for me what Dr. Harman was. He was a real Doctor. He came to the house many times to care for us. Especially if we had chicken pox or measles. He was my hero. I loved him. I never wanted to go to another Doctor. I remember begging him at 18 to allow me to stay. He did, but at 21 he finally put his foot down and told me he didn't doctor adults. There has never been another like him for me. And probably never will be. Thank you Doc. You are now in good hands like we...

I remember Dr.Harman as my pediatrician. I always liked him. He and his office were full of compassion. I also went to Bluefield College which I understand he was related to the president of the college Dr. Harman. that is certainly a small world. I will miss him. May God comfort you during this difficult time.

William and Ray Harman, my father, were first cousins and I have fond memories of him. I, as a child, remember him returning to Floyd to go trout fishing with my father, and I was thrilled to occasionally be allowed to go as well. My mom, Nancy Harman, never forgot attending William's graduation from VPI because the evening following the ceremony I made my entrance into the world on June 6, 1938.

My wife Jean and I enjoyed "catching up" with William at family functions to recall...

Our four children were so privileged to have had Dr. Harman as their pediatrician until he retired. He taught us such a respect for any medication that he prescribed for them. He took the time to care. What a wonderful doctor; what a wonderful man. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

It was my honor to have Dr. Harman as my pediatrician ....when I was 2 months old I almost lost my life....I was told by my mother, who was told by the nurses on the floor of Kings Daughters Hospital. That dear Dr. Harman knelt beside my hospital bed and prayed for me...and here I am 58 years later ! I am so very graftful for this kind, Godly man that always went above and beyond . ....,& on a lighter note, I it's a little heartbreaking to find out that I was not the only one he called...
