Camel Rock

Just found out Drum Hadley had passed away.
We briefly met Drum in 2008 as we were hosted on the ranch for a day of research while hiking the old Cooke's Wagon Road route. The conservation of the grasslands and care for the land is a great legacy for Drum and the family. RIP Mr. Hadley.

Within every cared for Egg and all well tended Shells, there abides that which will ever be physically required: warmth, comfort, nourishment, security, and rest.

On the outside there is a flood of pains, possible joys, perhaps a feast but most certain hunger, want, strife, and longing.

But that which lies beyond, past the shell,
over the horizon further than our eyes .. there is lives the dream that cradles the soul.
Drum chose Life.....

An Arizona and even an American original, Drum embodied the combination of intellect with the rawhide Western spirit which has defined the state. Lived hard, thought hard, and worked hard to write it down as a poet and to tell as a yarn spinner. Generous as a philanthropist and as a friend, loved books and horses.

Rest in Peace, Compadre.
