Duane was 11 years older than me but growing up the Hibbs family were very close. We spent holidays either in Chariton, Iowa or at home in Ames, Iowa with all the Hibbs' together. The thing I remember about Duane was playing cards with his dad and uncles. We're found memories growing up. As kids we think things will never change, will always be the same, but changes happen all the time as we learn that in growing up. Duane exercised his brilliance with great kindness, thoughtfulness and consideration. He was a role model of his generation and lived life well.

Duane was a good friend and a great colleague. When we first met, he was Assistant Superintendent of the Electrical Department and Process Control at Inland Steel, and I was a "summer engineer" still in school. Years later we met again and worked together for 12 years at Midwest Steel, where he acted as a reference for my Indiana PE License.
