That was an incredible obit. Touching, to say the least. I never knew him but had goosebumps reading it.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, Dustin Stanley Fields decided not to wake up while on a business trip (not gambling, ironically) in Las Vegas. Dustin was a skater, magician, musician, rock climber, mountain biker, poker player, writer, SCUBA diver, photographer, basketball player, triathelete, tennis...

I read this obituary to my high school students in a social science class at Morro Bay High School on the day it appeared. It was truly - and I told this to the students - one of the most powerful obituaries I had ever read. I wish I had known Dustin. If I were any kind of a write, I suspect that I would be able to write an entire novel based solely on the information in this obituary. Thank you for sharing your love of Dustin with the rest of us.

I worked with Dustin, and found him to be 'real'. Yes he had his passions, but I only witnessed to one, his work. And how amazing that was. Another co-worker had the opportunity to work closely with Dustin, and had often commented on his creative contribution to the software. Set aside all, we miss him, and know that he'll find answers to many of his questions now.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. The writer of the obituary is Dustin's father, Jim Fields (with help and input from the rest of the family, of course). He can be reached at [email protected].

Sometimes an obituary can bring a person to life even though you never met them. I am sorry I never had the chance, truly interesting people are a gift to us all.

We wish we had known him. (Is the obit writer available for freelance work?)

I didn't know Dustin, but he sounds like a darn interesting guy & I wish I had known him. I'd like to offer my condolences to all his family and friends.
I am also very curious as to who his favorite sister would be, and as to who it was who wrote this perfectly fascinating and clever obit.

I didn't know Dustin but read his obituary and had to say he must have been a great guy to have a family with such a great sense of humor. Thanks for sharing with humor the life of a remarkable person.. My condolences to you.
