Mr. Wallace was a kind, encouraging, and thoughtful educator. I am grateful that I was able to learn from him and it is heartening to see so many other people felt exactly the same way. A true gentleman.

Sometimes you work in a special environment. My years at Merriam were just that. Hearing Dwain's voice & his laugh as he interacted with us. Seeing his professionalism and his gentle ways with students. He truly was a fine gentleman.

Mr. Wallace had the quality of not holding back and expressing his enthusiasm whether it be his passion about teaching his content area or his shared joy when we students were "getting it" and engaged in learning. He was one of the best among the best teachers Shawnee Mission offered to us during his tenure. I still recall his theatrical responses when one of us responded correctly.....his voice would boom and sometimes he´d jump up dramatically to positively reinforce our participation. We...

Dwain loved to travel, share his experiences, (with pictures) trying to keep the number at 2( per Julee) organize "happy hours", and had THE BEST laugh!!He was a SPECIAL, one of a kind He Will BE MISSED

I had the honor of having Mr. Wallace in 6th grade at Merriam Elementary School in 1983. He had a special way with tweens that, looking back, was something quite special. My condolences to his loved ones.

I had Mr. Wallace for 6th grade Social Studies at Merriam Elementary. We would often play Around the World to quiz our Capital knowledge. Mr. Wallace asked me the Capital of Pennsylvania and I excitedly, full of confidence yell Harrisburg!! Mr. Wallace starts laughing his deep booming laugh, which admittedly we had not heard very often with this group. I could not figure out why he was almost in tears laughing at me....
