Dwight Cox

Dwight Leon Cox, 87, returned to his heavenly home and to be with his wife of 62 years, Mary K. on December 14, 2019 who had only passed 5 months ago. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God made him the person whom everyone loved.

Dwight was born on May 4, 1932 to the late Roy and Merle Cox in Darlington, IN. He honorably served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States from 1953-1955.

He was blessed with a devoted wife, Mary K. (Hougland) Cox and a loving family. Dwight and Mary K. were married on September 15, 1957 at a little country church in Covington, IN. He was dedicated to his job at R.R. Donnelley & Sons for 42 years while at the same time maintaining his farm and helping Mary K. raise their three daughters.
For those who new Dwight, he took so much pride in his weed free gardening skills. He loved nature, especially his birds and being surrounded by wildlife.

Dwight was an active member of the Congregational Christian Church in Darlington since 1966. He served as deacon in the church for over 25 years. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.

He is survived by his daughters Camilla Sawick, Connie (Ken) Lee and Carla (Fred) Earl; his eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and brother Gordon (Penny) Cox. Dwight was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K., son-in-law David Sawick, his parents, three brothers and sister.

A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm at Darlington Congregational Christian Church on Thursday, December 19th with a funeral service to follow immediately after. The burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery in Darlington at 11:00 am on Friday, December 20th.
