Verner at work in the early 1980's was a firm leader endlessly energised by curiosity, looking in on all the various projects in the office, in turn. He met the efforts of his colleagues with lively animation, mixing funny stories with a serious sense of commitment.

Verner was a giant of a figure to those of us who love museums and, most especially, museum design. I spent years designing exhibits in spaces he designed as an architect and they were flexible, beautiful, elastic spaces that people loved to be in.
Verner was professionally generous and readily shared his deep knowledge of museum architecture and gave praise and mentoring to younger professionals.
He will be deeply missed by many but has left a legacy of beauty, innovation,...
