Sue Montgomery, 83, of Allentown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Philadelphia and a graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. She later earned her associate's degree from Mercer County Community College. Sue worked for many years as a research associate in the research and analytics field, where her insights and curiosity were deeply valued.
Sue and her husband Harry raised their family in West Windsor, NJ, where she was a devoted parishioner of St. David the King Catholic Community. Her faith was central to her life, and she generously gave her time and energy to church organizations, including volunteering with Angel’s Wings, where she always offered comfort and kind words when needed. In later years, Sue and Harry moved to Allentown and became active members of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.
Sue and Harry shared a beautiful marriage that spanned over six decades, grounded in deep affection, mutual respect, and joy. They were rarely apart, whether traveling, visiting with friends and family, or simply sitting at the kitchen table reading the paper. Their love was gentle but unshakable, the kind that anchored a family and inspired everyone around them.
Sue had an adventurous spirit and an open heart. She and Harry explored nearly every continent, collecting memories, friendships, and stories that she delighted in sharing with others. At home, she found equal joy in tending her flower beds and vegetable garden. She was also a devoted bridge player, having played with the same beloved group of friends for over four decades, a tradition that brought her great joy, laughter, and camaraderie.
To her family, Sue was the steady center: wise, kind, and unconditionally loving. Her greatest pride and joy were her daughters and grandchildren, to whom she was endlessly devoted. She had a gift for making every person feel seen and valued and was always cheering everyone on in their ambitions.
She is predeceased by her parents and stepfather, Eleanor and Alexander Janus and James McDermott, as well as by her brother, James McDermott, Jr. Sue is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Harry Montgomery; her three daughters, Kathleen Montgomery, Susan Montgomery and her husband James Gehrt, and Donna Montgomery; her cherished grandchildren, Julien Gehrt, and Ian and Bevin Montgomery-Gehrt; her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Marie McDermott; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 22nd from 3-5pm at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 23rd at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Rd., Allentown, NJ.
