Not sure what to say?

I was sad to read of Mr. Alft's death. Our friendship goes back to my senior year at Elgin High School. I was in his government class during the fun year when he ran for Elgin City Council. I was somewhat fearsome about studying "government," because it was a subject I had never studied. Mr. Alft not only made my fear go away, he inspired me to love the subject. His political campaign brought home the message that we all have something valuable to contribute to our community. He encouraged my...

As the Local History Librarian at the Schaumburg Township District Library, I would like to say that we are fortunate to have eight of Mr. Alft's books in our Illinois Collection. His contributions to the greater Elgin area's local history are immeasurable. The fact that he took the time to do the research and write it down is so beneficial for generations to come. Thank you, Mr. Alft, for your devotion to history. It is much appreciated.

Mr. Alft was my Economics teacher at Elgin High School in the early 60's, May you rest in eternal peace Mr. Alft!

Elgin has lost a treasure. I can´t think of anyone that has made such an impact in Elgin. He was truly devoted to this city. May GOD have him in HIS glory.

Few if any made more contributions to the City of Elgin as did Mike. In his years of countless service to the City and his dedicated traching to thousand of students through the years, he made a historical positive impact on the community that will not be forgotten

As a historian for the Bartlett Historical Society, I would like to send condolences. I met him at the Elgin Library and over the many times I read his histories of this area. A truly great person.
