Not sure what to say?

I have had the pleasure of knowing Earl for over forty years. Earl was one of the hardest working men I have ever met. Earl was not shy about giving one his honest opinion.

My condolences to Earl's loved ones. Earl was a good man. I am proud to have known him and worked with him.
