Earl was born on November 17, 1943 and passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Earl was a resident of Marshfield, Massachusetts at the time of passing. Mr. Opdyke was a graduate of Hanover High School and Washington and Jefferson College. He served as 1st Lieutenant in the US Army, 1st Infantry during Vietnam, earning multiple decorations and distinctions for his service. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at 1 pm in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 11 Church Street, Hanover, MA. Interment Private. Visitation at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on November 19, 2017. Sunday November 19, 2017 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home 30 Central Street, P.O. Box 327 Norwell, MA 02061 Monday November 20, 2017 1:00 PM St. Andrews Episcopal 17 Church Street Hanover, MA 02339 Visitation at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on November 19, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Earl may be made to the Norwell VNA & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA.

We lost contact with Earl after graduation from W & J as we went our separate ways. We were Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity brothers in the same graduating class of "66. As fraternity brothers we were good friends who spent lives together attending fraternity parties, studying, attending football games, driving to Pittsburgh together looking for dates at Chatham College, hitting tennis balls and generally living life together with friends.
